Things to do at Rainbow Bay

Perhaps one of the Gold Coast's best kept secrets, beautiful Rainbow Bay offers plenty of things to see and do. While you're welcome to spend your days doing little more than lazing on the sand, there are a great range of things to do at Rainbow Bay and the surrounding area if you feel up to exploring.

Of course no visit to Rainbow Bay would be complete without enjoying the beach, which has plenty of sand and is especially popular with families for its sheltered swimming area. Patrolled by life guards and close to shore, the whole family will love relaxing on the sand or paddling in the water. The southern end of Rainbow Bay is the place to be at low tide, with a large area of rock pools revealed as the tide goes out. There are 'private' beaches where you can swim, or just explore the rock pools at your leisure - you never know what you will discover.

The waterfront walk from Rainbow Bay up to Kirra at the southern end of Coolangatta is lovely and can be quite fun for kids and nature-lovers. There are lots of different plants and rocks to discover along the way plus some wonderful views to enjoy. Another bonus is the playgrounds that are dotted along the way not to mention the cafes and ice cream shops where you can call in to cool off or indulge in a little treat for your efforts.

Stroll along the boardwalk to Point Danger which offers magnificent coastal views from the lookout. There's also the novelty of standing in two states at the same time as you straddle the Queensland and New South Wales borders. This is the perfect place for a photo opp, both for the gorgeous view and the silly fun you can have at the border. Another great spot for amazing views is the top of Greenmount Hill. Although the stairs may look intimidating, the climb is actually very manageable and the views are the top are absolutely worth it.

Of course no seaside holiday is complete without enjoying fish and chips by the beach. There are plenty of grass areas to set up a picnic rug as well as communal tables and chairs. Rainbow Bay Village is just minutes over the road for hot and fresh fish and chips and the nearby playground is the perfect spot for the kids to wear themselves out.
